The Italian logistics has a strong position in the European context, but also a weak institutional, partly because of its geographical fragmentation.
Some initiatives exist to promote logistics at a local level, but there are very few exchanges between private and public organisations, so there is a distance between the action of private companies and the initiatives of the pubblic bodies.
Some individual actors and organisations have obtained a position in the European institutions about transports and logistic. This starting point made them aware of the need for a strong organisation in the Italian logistics, knowing that this type of organisation could not emerge in a national level.
The Emilia-Romagna was considered an ideal laboratory for the promotion of logistics, given the vivacity of territory from an institutional point of view, and relevant location, given the great concentration of business.
In terms of location, the choice of Ravenna, Piacenza and Bologna,as poles relevant for the ITL's activities reveals the strategy to fit in the territories of greater interest in logistics.
In terms of institutional development, ITL has got the support of Emilia Romagna Regione and is widening its partners network to the Regional Association of companies, Bologna Freight Village, Bologna, Modena municipalities, the regional railway company (FER), Regional Hauliers associations and other public and private bodies.
The Institute is also based on a wide international network for the promotion and the implementation of the EU projects in which ITL is involved.
